Frequently Asked Questions
Who Can Use CoolSculpting?
This treatment has helped millions of men and women reduce and eliminate stubborn body fat that won’t respond to diet and exercise.
How Safe Is CoolSculpting?
Clinical trials have demonstrated CoolSculpting to be safe and effective in reducing fat in 9 different areas of the body.
What Can I Expect During My First Visit?
During your first JIVA visit, you will discuss your specific goals with your clinician to determine the best customized plan and holistic treatment approach.
What Is Treatment Like?
During your treatment, a gel pad with a vacuum applicator will be positioned on the target area. The vacuum applicator cup will then draw in the target tissue, delivering controlled cooling to the treatment area.
Does It Hurt? How Cold Does It Get?
CoolSculpting may feel intensely cold, but this sensation usually subsides within a few minutes as the treatment area numbs.
What Side Effects May Occur?
You may experience temporary symptoms as the numbness wears off, including redness or blanching, tingling, itching, stinging, tenderness, or aching. You might also have some firmness, swelling, or skin sensitivity.
Is There Any Recovery Downtime?
Many people go back to work or continue planned activities after a treatment. Because CoolSculpting is non-invasive, most people are able to cope with any side effects as the numbed skin returns to normal.
How Long Until I See Results?
CoolSculpting works by literally freezing fat cells. When fat cells freeze, they die and are then naturally eliminated through the body’s metabolism process.
CoolSculpting vs. Liposuction: Which Is Better?
CoolSculpting and liposuction are both ways to reduce body fat. However, their similarities end there. Whereas liposuction is an invasive surgical procedure that requires cutting, stitching, and anesthesia, CoolSculpting is a relatively simple treatment that relies on sub-zero temperatures to permanently freeze, kill, and eliminate fat cells. Liposuction surgery takes 1-2 hours, and recovery is usually a few days at least. Side effects may include blood clots, anesthesia reactions, and infection. On the other hand, CoolSculpting sessions take about 1 hour, and side effects are minimal; you may experience mild bruising or skin sensitivity, but severe reactions are uncommon. Of note, CoolSculpting can eliminate up to 25% of your fat cells, and liposuction can remove up to 11 pounds of body fat.
