It’s In Your Blood: The Regenerating Effects of PRP Vampire Treatments

Vampire treatments are a non-invasive option to utilize your body’s own platelet-rich plasma to transform aging, wrinkled skin for a more rejuvenated, youthful complexion.

Consult with a medical professional to learn more about platelet-rich plasma and if it’s the right treatment for you!

Imagine you’re on your usual morning run: the neighborhood is peaceful and quiet, with the sun rising steadily over the horizon. Suddenly you trip on the uneven sidewalk and fall, scraping up your knee in the process. The bad news: you’re bleeding. The good news: your wound will heal and scab over. After you bandage up the scraped-up spot, you continue with the rest of their day without another thought.

Our body’s automatic “self-repair” ability is more amazing than we realize! On a daily basis, our body relies on vital components and cells within the bloodstream to protect us from damaged tissue, heal unexpected injuries, and keep us healthy and whole.  Human blood is made up of 4 main elements: white blood cells, red blood cells, plasma, and platelets. Although each piece has an important function, it’s the platelets that play a vital role whenever you sustain an injury.

What Are Platelets?

The Cleveland Clinic defines platelets as “tiny components in the blood that assist with clotting by clustering together around a wound to stem blood flow.” Since platelets act as natural bandages, their restorative effects become even more powerful when combined with plasma—the liquid part of the blood—together forming what’s known as platelet-rich plasma (PRP). In a variety of medical fields, PRP has become instrumental for encouraging collagen growth and tissue regeneration.

The Healing Benefits of Platelet-Rich Plasma

PRP is not a new medical phenomenon. More than 30 years of extensive scientific research has proven that platelet-rich plasma has an advantageous impact on the body, especially in the joints, muscles, and tendons. According to John Hopkins Medicine, PRP treatment is especially helpful for patients experiencing one of the following conditions:

  • Musculoskeletal pain
  • Acute injuries (sprains, pulled muscles)
  • Chronic injuries (tendonitis, arthritis)
  • Post-surgery recovery
  • Alopecia (hair loss)
  • Wrinkles & aging skin

Many active and retired athletes are treated with PRP injections to ease pain around their stiff joints or injured tendons that have deteriorated from constant use. Additionally, PRP treatments are a popular anti-aging option for adults looking for an effective cosmetic enhancement. It’s crucial to talk with a doctor about PRP treatments before you get started, as not everyone is an ideal candidate for the procedure. Those in poor health, already suffering from some type of blood disorder, or taking certain medications will either be ineligible for PRP treatments, or they will have to undergo additional screenings before being approved for this type of procedure.

How Do Platelet-Rich Plasma Treatments Work?

To properly use PRP for medical or cosmetic concerns, the plasma and platelets must first be isolated from the red and white blood cells. The patient gives a small blood sample, about 2 teaspoons, to be purified for the procedure. Meanwhile, a centrifuge device is used to spin the blood, separating the various elements by their density. This leaves behind a highly concentrated liquid that contains 5-10x more platelets than normal blood that will be injected into specific sites to induce collagen and new tissue growth.

Unlike other injections, PRP treatments only contain natural factors produced by the body, which eliminates the risk for allergic reactions or infections. Since it is a non-surgical procedure, PRP sessions are quick and easy, with minimal downtime. After a treatment, it is common for patients to experience dry skin, redness, or inflammation—but that’s a good thing! PRP is known to speed up the skin’s healing process, and in effect, it activates higher levels of collagen and elastin in the epidermis.

It comes as no surprise then, that platelet-rich plasma has become a popular anti-aging procedure in medical spas around the world. Since the invention of the Vampire PRP treatment in 2010 by Dr. Charles Runels, the technique has only become even more popular! Our aestheticians at Jiva Med Spa use Vampire treatments to improve patients’ skin tone and texture, add more volume, and reduce the appearance of severe wrinkles and sagging skin.

Vampire PRP Treatments At Jiva Med Spa

At Jiva Med Spa, we’re experts at performing three different platelet-rich plasma treatments: the Vampire Facial, the Vampire Facelift, and the Vampire Breast Lift. Although each procedure utilizes the patient’s platelet-rich blood, each of them produce different effects.

The Vampire Facial

This platelet-rich plasma facial is a popular medical spa procedure that combines traditional microneedling with topical PRP application to stimulate collagen production, diminish acne scars, reduce hyperpigmentation, and smooth fine lines and wrinkles.

To perform a Vampire Facial treatment, a doctor will begin by microneedling the entire face, which creates shallow, surface-level pricks in the skin which naturally trigger your body’s healing response and stimulate the skin’s stem cells. Then, the PRP is applied to boost the growth of collagen, new blood vessels, new cells, and rejuvenated skin.

Although the name implies facial use only, patients often discover that the Vampire Facial treatment is equally effective on their hands, neck, and upper torso as well. Jiva Med Spa Medical Director, Dr. Nanda, recommends an average of 3 platelet-rich plasma treatments, with a month between each treatment session. Even after one session, the body will continue to generate new, younger-looking for quite a while! If desired, the process can be repeated every six months or so to maintain the best results.

The Vampire Facelift

The Vampire Facelift is often confused with the Vampire Facial, yet it serves an entirely separate function! The main difference between the two is that the Vampire Facelift combines hyaluronic acid filler (like Juvéderm or Restylane) with PRP injections to target loose, sagging skin, wrinkles, hollow cheekbones, and other types of uneven skin texture.

The hyaluronic acid fillers target specific lines, folds, and wrinkles, whereas the platelet-rich plasma takes a more holistic approach that covers any missed areas. PRP injections improve skin texture, restore volume, and enhance natural tissue regeneration for the most youthful facial appearance. Best of all, PRP can be paired with a variety of other treatments based on the preference of the patient: laser treatments, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, Botox, and more.

The Vampire Breast Lift

Improve the shape, skin tone, and texture of your breasts with our PRP breast contouring treatment. Similar to the Vampire Facelift procedure, the Vampire Breast Lift uses a combination of hyaluronic acid filler and platelet-rich plasma injections to plump the skin, add volume where needed, and even increase the appearance of cleavage!

Women’s breasts undergo many changes due to childbirth, breastfeeding, surgical implants, or simply shrinkage from the natural aging process. This causes a variety of concerns such as stretch marks, loose or uneven skin texture, and even a diminished sensitivity around the areolas.

Luckily, the Vampire Breast Lift is a fantastic option to counteract these issues and augment the breasts’ volume, tighten sagging skin, and create beautiful, curvy results. Like the Vampire Facelift, results from a Vampire Breast Lift will be immediate from the hyaluronic acid. Then, over time, the PRP releases active growth factors that will naturally boost collagen production and new tissue regeneration in the breasts.

In addition to the Vampire treatments, Dr. Runels also developed the use of PRP in sexual health treatments. At Jiva Med Spa, we offer the trademarked O-Shot for women and the P-Shot for men, two PRP treatments that work to rejuvenate one’s reproductive system and promote a more robust sex life.

No matter what platelet-rich plasma treatment you choose, at Jiva Med Spa, you’ll receive the best service from skilled, experienced professionals. Every aspect of our PRP treatments is FDA-approved—from the blood sample prep kits, to the devices we use during the PRP procedure—so we ensure the highest levels of safety standards for our patients.
