Aging is as much a part of life as eating, sleeping, and going to work. In fact, many of the activities that are necessities of daily living cause the skin to age. Ultraviolet light, a byproduct of sun exposure, is one of the most significant contributors to aging. This knowledge is a double-edged sword, as most bodies are built to need exposure to the sun — mainly for vitamin D production and warding off mental health issues like depression. Experts warn that most people do not need more than 15-20 minutes of direct sun exposure per day, and any more than that can cause serious harm, including skin cancer.

But even if you avoid getting skin cancer, chances are you won’t prevent the aging effects of sun exposure. Prolonged exposure can make facial wrinkles worse, increase skin discoloration, and cause skin issues that exacerbate natural aging factors. Studies show that there is a U curve in self-confidence as people age, and much of that can be contributed to the way people feel about themselves as the body begins to show signs of aging. Luckily, taking good care of the skin through the use of skin protection and care can make a huge impact.

But for those things it cannot help, there are solutions. Jiva Med Spa offers one of those solutions in the form of our Halo Rejuvenation Treatment for fine lines, wrinkles, and skin quality as you gracefully age. Here is a little more about how the Halo rejuvenation treatment works.

What is the Halo Rejuvenation Treatment?

The Halo hybrid fractional laser is a laser skin treatment by Sciton which works on facial imperfections with both ablative and non-ablative wavelengths. A doctor will assess with their patient about the areas of the face which the patient finds problematic. From there, the treatment will target microscopic zones with the laser wavelengths. Most patients will receive one to three aggressive treatments of the face where skin renewal is most needed. A more detailed look at the procedure shows potential patients what to expect from their treatments.

Assessment of Skin Rejuvenation & Patient Needs

After a patient sets up a halo treatment time, they will receive a consultation from their medical provider. At this point, the provider of the treatment will go over the benefits and possible side-effects of skin rejuvenation, as well as discuss the problem areas with the patient. This consultation will also work out your schedule. The Halo Rejuvenation Treatment is meant to be as non-invasive as possible, but there will be some healing time associated with the procedure. For those who can take a little time off work or daily life to heal, your provider might work out a more aggressive treatment to limit the number of times you must come back and receive treatment.

For those who need to be back to work immediately, your Halo skin rejuvenation provider might stagger your treatments out over a series. This should not worry those who are interested in receiving treatment, as downtime in most cases is very limited, and the procedure itself is not painful. Read on to learn more about downtime and what to expect.

The Day of the Treatment

On the day of the treatment, the patient arrives at the treatment center, and a topical anesthetic is applied to the area being worked on. This happens between thirty minutes to an hour before the procedure, leaving enough time for the patient to feel no discomfort during the process. After the application and test of the anesthetic, the patient is brought in, and the area is measured with the advanced laser technology, and the laser treatment is provided. This laser treatment effectively resurfaces the skin, the results of the resurfacing discussed later.

Thanks to the Sciton technology, there is no need to worry about human error when it comes to your applied treatment. Although the medical professionals treating you will be physically working the laser, the technology in combination with the measured out area on your face allows the technology to tell that the treatment has been evenly applied. This provides the best results the first time around and consistency if your provider recommends a second or third treatment.

During the treatment, most patients experience warmth and occasional pricking sensations. Reports generally are painless, although heat is often experienced for up to 30 minutes after treatment.

Aftercare and Results

One of the most sought-after benefits of this treatment is that there is little to no downtime with the procedure itself. For the first 24-hours after treatment, the medical professional that provided you with the treatment will have you treat your skin with a thick, petroleum-based ointment. You should keep your skin makeup-free during this time, but after that period, most resume their normal routines.

Patients should not expect to see results within the first three days, but it is normal for the skin to peel during this time. Peeling skin is a normal part of the healing process and will not negatively impact the skin in the long run. At first, you will notice your skin begin to bronze, but as the skin starts to heal (around day four), you’ll see results. At first, most notice changes in the pigmentation of the skin, such as the disappearance of freckles and dark spots. Then, usually after a few weeks, the skin begins to tighten as it regrows and you’ll notice a reduction in fine lines, wrinkles, and other age-related issues that were initially consulted about with your doctor.
